What does an E120 fire-rated elevator door mean?

E120 means the landing door assembly maintained integrity against flame and hot gases for 120 minutes in an EN 81-58 furnace test. The rating applies to the tested assembly — leaves, header, sill, frame and fixings — so components cannot be mixed between rated and unrated sets.

Why do elevator doors keep reopening?

The usual causes are a dirty or misaligned infra-red light curtain, worn door gibs dragging in the sill, a loose coupler/skate on the car door, or a door-zone vane alignment error. A maintenance visit measures closing force, checks gib wear and re-parameterises the VVVF operator.

How wide should an elevator door be for wheelchair access?

EN 81-70 requires a minimum 800 mm clear opening for a Type 1 accessible lift and 900 mm for Type 2, with a door dwell time long enough for an assisted user to enter and exit.

How much clearance is allowed between the car sill and landing sill?

EN 81-20 limits the horizontal gap between the car sill and the landing sill to 35 mm, and the gap between the car door and landing door panels to 6 mm when new.

In short

An elevator door set has two halves: the car door that travels with the cabin and the landing door at every floor. The car door operator drives the landing door through a coupler (skate/vane), and the landing door interlock must be proven closed and locked before the lift can move — this is the single most safety-critical circuit in the installation.

Engineering overview

Doors cause the majority of lift breakdown callouts, so Liftech Global specifies the complete door set as one engineered package: landing door panels and headers, car door panels, VVVF door operator, door lock (interlock), sill, gibs, closer weight or spring, and the light curtain.

Panels are 1.2–1.5 mm steel with SUS 304 hairline, mirror or powder-coated finish. Fire-rated landing doors are tested to EN 81-58 for E60 or E120 integrity, with intumescent seals and steel-wool infill; a fire-rated door must never be mixed with a non-rated header or sill because the certificate covers the assembly, not the leaf.

Door operators are closed-loop VVVF with encoder feedback, giving programmable opening and closing speed, nudging force and reversal sensitivity. EN 81-20 caps closing kinetic energy at 10 J and static closing force at 150 N — Liftech measures and records both on every commissioning sheet.
